Keep Proscenium up to date

How updates arrive

Proscenium checks for a new version when it opens and once a day, then downloads it in the background while you work. When it is ready, a notice says the new version is ready to install. Choose Restart to Update there, or later in Settings → Updates. Proscenium never restarts on its own, and it saves your work before it restarts.

To check now, choose Proscenium → Check for Updates… or Check Now in Settings → Updates. To stop the daily checks, turn off Check for updates automatically. You can still check yourself.

A check sends your Proscenium and macOS versions and whether your Mac has Apple silicon or Intel. Each update is verified as coming from Proscenium before it installs.

Stable and Beta

Your Track decides which versions Proscenium offers you:

• Stable, the default, brings each new release.
• Beta brings each new release, and test versions of it before it comes out. Choose it if you want new features early and don’t mind the occasional rough edge.

Change your track

1. Open Settings with ⌘, and choose Updates.
2. Choose Stable or Beta from the Track menu.

Proscenium checks the new track right away. Moving from Stable to Beta offers the newest beta at once, because it is ahead of the last release.

Going back to Stable

Choosing Stable again is one click. Proscenium never installs an older version, though, and the beta you have is newer than the last release. So nothing installs until a release comes out that is newer than the version you have, which is the release that beta was leading up to. From then on you get each release as usual.

While you are waiting, Settings → Updates says so, and names the version the next release has to pass.
