Saving, Versions and sync
Check that your words reached the file, look back at an earlier version, and review changes that arrived from another editor or device.
Check the save status
Proscenium saves as you write. Look at the status bar for Saved, or press ⌘S to save now.
If the app reports that it could not save, read the message before switching plays or moving files. Check that the Plays folder is available and that the disk has space. Words kept in Versions after a failed save are not yet the current file on disk.
Read an earlier version
- Open the document you want to look back through.
- Choose Versions… from the script-name menu.
- Select a saved version. Use Text to read it or What Changed to compare it.
- If you want that text back, choose Restore… and read the confirmation before proceeding.
Restoring replaces the current document text. Proscenium keeps the current text in Versions first so you can return to it.
Review outside changes
Choose Changes in the toolbar or press ⌘5 when a script has been changed outside Proscenium. Read the differences before deciding which text to keep. This is useful after editing in another app or receiving a synced change.
If the app presents another copy or a conflict, compare the words rather than relying only on filenames or modification times.
Write across devices
Proscenium works with the files in your selected folder. iCloud Drive or another sync service is responsible for carrying those files to another device.
Before moving to another machine, let the app save and let the sync service finish. On the other machine, wait for the files to arrive before opening the play. Avoid editing the same script on two machines at once.
A missing binder row can mean a file has not arrived yet. Check Finder and the sync service before treating it as a deletion.
Recover unsaved words
After an interrupted session, Proscenium may offer Unsaved Changes. Read the offered text and compare it with the script before restoring it.
The current text is kept in Versions before restoration. If you discard the recovery offer, those recovered words remain available in Versions.
If a save problem continues, use Send Feedback and include the error message you saw.
