Preferences and help

Work the way you need to

Make the interface text larger, work from the keyboard, and send PDFs that carry their own structure. Here is what every build of Proscenium is checked for.

Larger interface text

Open Settings with ⌘,Ctrl+,, choose Appearance, and set Text size anywhere from 100% to 200%. Menus, panels and buttons grow; the pages you write on keep their size. To enlarge the pages, choose View › Zoom In.

The printed script never changes with either setting. Its type and measurements come from the script format.

Use the keyboard

You can work without a pointer. These keys take you around the window:

⌃TabCtrl+Tab
Move to the next area of the window: the toolbar, the binder, the play, the inspector and the status bar. Add Shift to go back. Inside the script, Tab changes the line type instead.
Escape
Close the menu or sheet on top. Only the top one closes, and the keyboard returns to where you were.
⇧F10Shift+F10
Open the actions for the selected binder row, as a right-click would.
⌃⌘ arrowsCtrl+Shift+arrows
Move the selected binder item up or down, out of its folder or into the folder above. Move… in its actions does the same from a list.
⌘/Ctrl+/
Open the full list of shortcuts.

Anything you can drag has a key or a menu command that does the same. On the Board and in the Outline, scenes move with their move controls.

Accessible PDFs

An exported PDF is tagged: it carries the play’s title, its language and a reading structure, so software that reads documents aloud can follow it in order. Set it with Play Language… in the script-name menu, or in the export dialog’s Language field. See Set the play’s language.

What every build checks

Before any version of Proscenium reaches you, automated checks open each part of the app in light and dark appearances and test it against the WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standard. The same checks press the keys this page describes: moving between areas, closing the top menu or sheet with Escape, and returning the keyboard to where it was. They run again inside the finished Mac app, and inside the finished Windows app with the keys a PC presses (Keys on Windows).

If something gets in your way, send feedback and say what you were trying to do.
