Choose a script format
A format sets the paper size, margins, type and placement of each kind of line. Choose one for the play, then check the pages before you send them.
Change this play’s format
- Open the script-name menu above the writing area.
- Find Script format and choose a format. All Formats shows the full list.
- Look through the pages, especially long speeches, act openings and the last page.
The script keeps its words and line types. The layout and page count change to match the selected format. PDF export uses that format too.
Included formats
Proscenium House is the default for a new installation. The app also includes three Dramatists Guild formats (Modern, Traditional and Musical), UK / International (BBC), Samuel French / Concord Manuscript, and Sketch Comedy / Sketchworks.
If a theatre or submission call provides a style sheet, compare it with the format you choose. A preset name does not establish the requirements for a particular submission.
Make or import a format
Open Settings → Formats. Select a bundled format to preview it, or duplicate it to make an editable copy. Choose New Format… to start a new one.
The format designer lets you adjust the page and element rules, with a sample to inspect as you work. You can also reach it through Edit Current Format… in the script-name menu.
If someone has given you a Proscenium format file, choose Import Format… in Settings. Open Formats Folder shows where your custom format files live.
Set the format for new plays
In Settings → Formats → New plays, change Start new plays in. Existing plays keep their selected format.
