Arrange scenes on the Board · Proscenium Guide

See the shape of the play, keep a summary for each scene, and try a different order. The Board and Outline show the same scenes as your script.

Start with the Board

Choose Board in the toolbar or press ⌘2. Each scene has a card. If you need another scene, choose New Scene.

Give a card a short Summary so you can recognize the scene without reading its dialogue. Open its Details to work with notes and labels. These are places to plan a revision or record what the scene still needs.

Scene summaries do not print. Changing a summary does not rewrite the dialogue.

Move a scene

Drag a card to another position, or use its move controls to move it earlier or later. Open the script afterwards and read the new transition between scenes.

A move changes the script. Moving a card moves the scene’s words as well. The Board is another view of the play’s order. Use Undo if you want to put the scene back.

Work in the Outline

Choose Outline or press ⌘3 for a list of the same scenes. Use it when you want to read summaries together or work through scene notes in order.

The Summary and Notes fields are editable here too. Scene statuses can help distinguish a rough scene from one you are ready to read aloud. Edit the available statuses in Settings → Writing.

Return to Script with ⌘1 when you are ready to work on the words.
