Comments and working notes
Leave a thought beside a line, keep a note about a whole scene, or give a longer idea its own document. These serve different parts of the writing process.
Comment on the script
Select the text you want to comment on, then choose + Comment above the script or press ⌘⌥M. Write the comment in the composer and confirm it.
Comments appear beside the script when there is room. They stay with the script file and are left out of printed pages and PDF export.
You can also write a Fountain note in double brackets, such as [[Does she know this yet?]].
Review your comments
Choose Comments above the script or press ⌘⇧C to open the comments pane. Select a comment to return to its place in the script.
Use Resolve when you no longer need a comment. Resolving removes the comment text, leaving the surrounding script in place. Use Undo if you resolved it by mistake.
Choose where a note belongs
- Comment
- A question or reminder attached to a particular place in the script. It does not print.
- Scene summary
- A short description of what happens in a scene. Edit it on the Board, in the Outline or in the inspector. It stays with the script but does not print.
- Scene notes
- Your thinking about a scene. Find these in the Board’s details or the Outline.
- Document
- Longer material such as research or a revision plan. Add it in the binder and open it beside the script.
Opening notes are different: they are pages intended for the reader and can be included in the exported script. Edit those through opening pages.
